Today marks the 80th anniversary of D-Day, one of the most pivotal moments in World War II history. On June 6, 1944, Allied forces launched the largest amphibious invasion in history on the beaches of Normandy, France. This monumental effort, codenamed Operation Overlord, was a turning point in the war, leading to the eventual liberation of Western Europe from Nazi occupation.

The bravery and determination of the more than 156,000 troops who stormed the beaches cannot be overstated. Soldiers from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and many other Allied nations faced intense gunfire, treacherous terrain, and overwhelming odds. Their courage and sacrifice laid the foundation for the freedom we enjoy today.

As we reflect on this significant anniversary, we honour the memory of those who fought and those who fell. Their legacy is a testament to the enduring spirit of cooperation and resilience. It’s a reminder of the high cost of freedom and the strength found in unity.

Let us take a moment to remember the heroes of D-Day. Their actions on that fateful day continue to inspire generations and remind us of the importance of standing together against tyranny and oppression.

We owe them our deepest gratitude. #DDay80 #RememberingHeroes #NeverForget
