LOCAL CHARITY – CASH GRANTS AVAILABLE

Did you know that there is a local charity with funds available to persons aged up to 25 years and resident within the parishes of Brixworth and Scaldwell?

Cash grants are available to any qualifying person for use for educational purposes. Grants can be made to assist in the purchase of school uniform, books, course materials, musical instruments and computer equipment and may also be available towards the costs of travelling expenses linked to an educational venture including school trips.

Any person who wishes to apply should either pick up an application form from the Library in Brixworth. Alternatively an application form and any further details about the Charity can be obtained from the Clerk to the Trustees Ursula Morris on 505554 or by email:

Meetings of the Trustees are held twice yearly to consider applications. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday 27th September 2016

Fly-tippers Face New Fixed Penalty Notices

Fly-tippers face new fixed penalty notices

 Please note people caught fly-tipping in Daventry District can be instantly fined £400 under new measures by Daventry District Council (DDC).

The Council’s Environmental Improvement Service is introducing Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) for small-scale instances of fly-tipping to tackle the problem more effectively. Previously offenders could only be prosecuted through the courts, which can be costly, time-consuming and often involve lengthy investigations.

The new powers have been introduced under The Unauthorised Deposit of Waste (Fixed Penalties) Regulations 2016. DDC has set its Fixed Penalty Notice for fly-tipping at £400, reduced to £300 if paid within 10 days of the offence.

There are currently between 60 and 100 instances of fly-tipping a month in Daventry District. It is hoped that the new FPNs will act as a deterrent to help reduce instances of small-scale fly-tipping. However the Council will continue to pursue court prosecution where offences are serious and it is in the public interest to do so, or when an offender refuses to pay a fixed penalty.
