Brixworth Beacon Lighting – Thursday 21st April 7.30pm
Brixworth is joining hundreds of communities up and down the country when it lights a special beacon to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday.
People will be able to come and see the beacon when it is lit at 7.30pm on Thursday 21 April.
The Queen, Accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall will light the Principal Beacon to Celebrate Her Majesty’s 90th Birthday on Thursday 21st April.
To celebrate The Queen’s 90th Birthday, His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales will invite Her Majesty The Queen to light the Principal Beacon on 21st April at Windsor Castle.
This will be followed by the lighting of a number of Beacons along the Long Walk, Windsor Great Park, including one at the Copper Horse, and then over 1,000 beacons will be lit throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, UK overseas Territories and a Commonwealth Country to celebrate this landmark birthday.
Many different organisations are taking part from all areas of the local community by lighting Beacons, including Town, Parish and Community Councils and Youth Organisations. Beacons will be lit at churches, on farms, country parks, village greens and on country estates. Lighthouses, National Trust and English Heritage properties are also taking part.
The Army Cadet Force are taking special gas fuelled Beacons to the top of the Four Highest Peaks in the UK:
Ben Nevis – Scotland (1st Battalion Highlanders Army Cadet Force)
Mount Snowdon – Wales (Clwyd and Gwynedd Army Cadet Force)
Scafell Pike – England (Cumbria Army Cadet Force)
Slieve Donard – Northern Ireland (2nd NI Battalion Army Cadet Force)
Bruno Peek, LVO, OBE, OPR, Pageantmaster, The Queen’s 90th Birthday Beacons said, “It has been a enormous privilege to be able to organise this amazing community event to celebrate the 90th Birthday of Her Majesty The Queen. I am delighted to see so many different organisations playing their part.”
The Beacons on top of the Four Peaks will be lit at 7.15pm with all other Beacons being lit at between 7.30pm and 8.30pm that evening.
The Prince of Wales has written a message which may be read out at Beacon lighting ceremonies. It has been placed here on www.brunopeek.co.uk and www.princeofwales.gov.uk

Ageing Well Workshops
Following on from the recent survey consultation for the Daventry District Council Ageing Well Strategy and Rural Social Isolation/Loneliness project, the next step is to carry out a series of workshops in the pilot parishes to delve a bit deeper in to the issues facing older people. The events will also provide a social element (ie refreshments, local groups, support agencies and a fun or social activity).

Roadworks on A508 North of Northampton
MOTORISTS WARNED OF POTENTIAL FOR SEVERE CONGESTION ON A508 NORTH OF NORTHAMPTON
Motorists are being warned of the potential for long delays on the A508 north of Northampton due to roadworks associated with a housing development which are scheduled to start on Tuesday, after Easter.
Drivers are being advised to avoid the route if possible or allow extra time for journeys while the works take place at the busy Boughton roundabout.
The junction will be under round-the-clock temporary traffic signals as a new roundabout is built to allow better access into the new Buckton Fields development.
Cllr Michael Clarke, Northamptonshire County Council cabinet member for transport, highways and environment, said: “The temporary traffic lights on the A508 at the Boughton roundabout are extremely regrettable. I realise that this is the second time in as many months that motorists have been inconvenienced on this route.
“At Highways we work proactively with the many contractors and utility companies, who are involved in the construction of a large housing project such as the Buckton Fields development.
“We urge the contractors to exchange information and to cooperate with one another, so that we minimise the need for temporary traffic lights – and minimise the ensuing delays, especially at peak times.”
“The sheer complexity of the projects and the number of contractors involved sometimes requires Highways to issue more than one permit to allow work to be completed. We will be doing all we can to get the work completed early and the temporary traffic lights lifted.”
The initial part of the project will focus on the Boughton roundabout junction and will need four-way temporary traffic signals. The latter part of the project will concentrate on the section of Harborough Road further south of the roundabout and will need two-way signals. Work is scheduled to finish in early June.
